Community Support
Legal Advocacy: AAFS advocates accompany individuals who have filed civil and criminal cases. Services include accompanying individuals as they disclose their story to a judge, assisting with emergency orders for protection, and child support. Advocates are based in Skokie Courthouse, Bridgeview Courthouse, Rolling Meadows Courthouse, and Cook County Courthouse. (Include addresses of courthouses)
24-hour Crisis Hotline and walk-in support: Our 24-hour crisis hotline is available for community members in emergencies. Our caseworkers will assist individuals with creating a safety plan, locating emergency shelter, hospital accompaniment, and crisis intervention and assessment.
Medical Advocacy: AAFS responds to calls from nurses at Palos Community Hospital when a member of the Arab community enters the hospital due to rape. Advocates educate survivors about their rights before and after an assessment from a doctor, and provide emergency bags with change of clothing, change of hijab, and personal hygiene products.
Case Management and In-Office Support
Case Management Services: AAFS is a one-stop shop to assist individuals who need help with safety planning, finding a pro bono lawyer, managing a DCFS case, accessing social services, and applying for HMIS, a housing service for survivors of abuse. Case managers are available to our clients for additional support as well, depending on their needs.
Walk-in support: Staff members are available for walk-in visits, and answer the crisis hotline at our satellite offices on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Syrian Community Network at 5439 N Broadway, Chicago, IL 60640, and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at MIRA: Middle Eastern Immigrant and Refugee Alliance: 6420 N California Ave, Upper A, Chicago, Illinois 60645, US

Outreach & Training Programs
Community Outreach: We work to build respect and understanding between Arab Americans and mainstream American culture regarding gender-based violence and sexual assault. We work with universities, hospitals, police, government employees, and more.
Training Programs: AAFS offers a 40-hour Domestic Violence State Certification program for the state of Illinois, which certifies individuals to work with people impacted by and gender-based violence. The program provides cultural context for working with Arab people and is open to individuals from all professions.
