English Second Language and Civics Program

AAFS is proud to offer free English classes. Knowing English empowers immigrants to excel at work, to communicate clearly in healthcare settings, and to better understand everyday life in the U.S. There are two teachers on staff, and as of 2024, 350 students were enrolled in English courses. Each English class meets twice per week for two hours. There are three different levels, with 20-25 students in each class. Additionally, AAFS offers one-on-one English tutoring to students who seek additional help.

AAFS also offers classes to prepare immigrants to pass the civic tests required to become a U.S. citizen. The civics curriculum involves practice tests, and mock interviews. AAFS is proud of our many graduates, for passing their civics test and becoming U.S. Citizens!
