Arab American Family Services, CLESE and Age Options hosted a senior’s workshop on Medicare and Medicaid Fraud.
Elderly Case Manager Najwa Saleh and staff members Amani Abbasi and Ibtesam Asfour, presented the workshop discussing ways to understand culturally appropriate ways of talking about health care fraud and how to encourage limited English speaking beneficiaries (Medicare or some combination such as, Medicare/Medicaid, MMAI, etc.) to prevent and report fraud.
The workshop was not only informative, but beneficial to help get an understanding on ways to help seniors avoid fraud in the medical field.
They were asked various questions including what they like about their health care benefits and who they ask if they need assistance. They were also given a better explanation of Medicare/Medicaid fraud and how to look for the warning signs, such as doctor’s or health care professionals billing your health care benefits for something that you are not receiving or should not be receiving.
Often times, the elderly community is vulnerable to crimes against them, especially in the areas of health care and fraud. We hope that with more trainings like this, we can help raise awareness and put an end to abuse.
