AAFS Speaks at 12th Annual Statewide Summit for Bilingual Parents

Arab American Family Services was proud to take part in the 12th Annual Statewide Summit for Bilingual Parents on Saturday, May 7.
AAFS staff members Amani Abbasi and Ernestina Milla spoke about the impact and importance of parent groups, as well as the importance of getting involved in your children’s school and education. Doing so can help a child succeed and can bridge the gap of communication for school administrators, teachers and the child.
AAFS domestic violence victims advocates Ibtessam Asfour and Fatimeh Hussien were also present to discuss educating and providing resources and information in the Arabic language, about domestic violence prevention and intervention. They discussed the dynamics of power and control and the effect domestic violence has on a child.
AAFS is thankful for this wonderful opportunity. If parents have questions on how to be more involved with their children’s school, please give us a call at (708) 599-2237.
