AAFS: Helping the Community Grow One Client at a Time

Recently, a client came to our Arab American Family Services office looking for assistance to help obtain food for her and her two children.
AAFS caseworker Amani Abbasi met one on one with the client and assessed her. She was able to give her a list of food pantries located in and around the client’s community.
Abbasi informed her that every Monday, AAFS receives donations of bread and offered an invitation to come in the following Monday and take as much bread as she needed and wanted.
“In addition to the information on food pantries and services offered by AAFS, I was able to give her a gift card to Shop-N-Save, to get her through the weekend,” Abbasi said.
“The client was in tears as I gave her school supplies and a backpack from the AAFS Back to School Drive,” she said.
The children were also given toys.
“We take so much for granted in life that we often overlook the struggles that many among us face,” Abbasi said.
“Something as basic as bread and food, which every human should be entitled to, many go without,” she said.
“This is why everyday I am at AAFS, I arrive to work and leave knowing that through our work, people’s lives are being effected and changed for the better, and this is why I continue to do everything I can, not just as a case worker, but as a human being,” she said.
