Sometimes, the best gift you can give your client is patience. Often times, as an agency, we know we cannot solve every client’s problems and often times, we have to seek assistance from a state agency, to give us the extra push to get the job done.
Recently, a client came to the Arab American Family Services office. She was pregnant and in need of health insurance. Our diligent caseworkers were able to make her an appointment at the Bridgeview Courthouse, where she was able to obtain proof of pregnancy in order to get a temporary medical card.
She came back to our office with the necessary documents she needed and from there, we completed a medical card application that was sent to the Department of Human Services office in Blue Island.
A few weeks later, we called the client to follow-up on her case.
She was very upset and scared because she had not gotten the medical card sent to her, and to make matters worst, she needed to be seen by a doctor immediately, but knew she could not afford it.
AAFS caseworkers called DHS office and spoke to a caseworker.
She informed us that the case was approved and active since the time the client applied.
After further research, she found that there was a code placed on the application that prevented the Medical Card from being mailed out. And the only way to remove the code was through an administrator. After a long hold time, we were finally able to get in touch with the right person to remove the code.
She gave me the identification number for the client’s medical card and sent it in the mail immediately.
The client immediately felt a sense of relief following the stressful time. The mother is up to date on all her doctor appointments and is getting the necessary vitamins to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery. Fortunately, our client is doing well and getting ready for the birth of her bundle of joy.
