Arab American Family Services co-founders Itedal Shalabi and Nareman Taha were honored to take part in the National Immigrant Integration Conference in Los Angeles. The three day conference featured speakers from the country’s leading experts on immigration reform and integration. It featured many goal-oriented workshops discussing this year’s historic immigration strides.
Hosted by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) and the National Partnership for New Americans, the NIIC discussed ways of improving the road to active citizenship, to expanding effective education and workforce training opportunities, to improve access to healthcare and increase financial assets.
Other topics discussed this year included economic opportunity, inclusion and stability throughout the country, as well as education services and systems that could strengthen the road to integration. The importance of national healthcare and it’s importance to structuring healthier communities. Many stories about art and culture were discussed, incorporating the background of many life experiences lived by immigrants.
Many seek to live the American Dream. Many come to the United States to be able to pen their own success stories that they can pass on from generation to generation. With conferences such as these, the road to understanding, acceptance and integration will be better paved.
