Summer Cooling Program Wraps Up

Signing up for the Summer Cooling Program kicked off on Tuesday, July 7 and until July 11. During this time, funding was provided by the government to ensure cooling assistance for eligible households.
Current participants in the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) were ineligible for cooling assistance.
This program targets at-risk households, defined as seniors, persons with disabilities, families with children less than 60 months of age as of the date of the application, and those with medical conditions that would be aggravated by extreme heat.
Arab American Family Services, was able assist with the application process for those who qualify. 133 clients made their way to our office that week. Staff were busy assisting in every way possible. The average was 44 applicants per three staff members.
Applicants were asked to bring proof of citizenship, Social Security numbers for everyone in the household, individual income statements for everyone in the household, as well as a current electric bill.
We are fortunate to be able to assist our communities in any way. If you have any questions about the programs offered by AAFS that you may qualify for, please call (708) 599-2237.
