A message from Nareman Taha and Itedal Shalabi, co-founders and executive directors at Arab American Family Services:
This is a hard week for Arab Americans, and for other groups who came directly under fire during the first Trump presidency. We remember the Muslim bans, the anti-immigrant executive orders, and the chaos on all levels that the entire country endured. This time around, our hearts are especially hurting, as many of our community members and their families have been impacted by the escalating wars in Palestine and the Middle East.
AAFS echoes a statement made earlier this week by The Network. We believe the situation will become even more dire for the population we work with, including survivors with limited English proficiency, those seeking asylum, and refugees and immigrants – many now fearful of mass deportation.
As we prepare for an unknown future, we invite you to join us and support our work.
“No matter who is in the White House, Arab American Family Services is here to serve our community. We provide essential comprehensive case management services, in a one-stop shop for the families in need. All of our staff are client-centered individuals with trauma-informed training, domestic violence training, and mental health first aid training. AAFS staff are bridge-builders, and we work to connect the broader community with Arab Americans. Our doors are open.”
