Last month, AAFS was happy to partner with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office to host a workshop at the Zakat Foundation in Bridgeview. Wesam Shahed and Edith Gonzalez shared essential resources for crime victims in the community, including U and T Visas, which can offer protection and a pathway to residency for those affected by crime. AAFS staff participated in the workshop as well. Shout-out to Meryana Hattar for MCing the workshop, and Saja Safi for interpreting. Additional partners for the workshop include State Representative Abdelnasser Rashid, State Senator Mike Porfirio, Family Focus, Lyons Township, and Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller.
