Advocacy Week Brings AAFS to Capitol Hill, Ensuring Arab American Voices are Heard in Congress

In June, AAFS staff joined the National Network for Arab American Communities, a coalition of 32 organizations from 12 states, to advocate for Arab Americans on Capitol Hill.

Executive Directors Nareman Taha and Itedal Shalabi, and several AAFS staff members participated in National Arab American Advocacy Week this past June in Washington D.C. AAFS once again joined the National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC) to advocate for Arab American communities in Congress, and to participate in training sessions on health and data equity, voting rights, civic engagement and more.

During the advocacy week, members of NNAAC visited a total of 22 congressional offices on Capitol Hill, ensuring that Arab American voices are heard on critical matters impacting our communities. AAFS also met with the Office of Management and Budget to discuss how to best implement the new MENA category in our community. Click here to view a highlight reel from NNAAC!
