AAFS Takes Part in Rohingya Cultural Center Winter Clothe Drive

Arab American Family Services was proud to team up with the Benedictine University Students for the Justice of Palestine to help donate winter clothes for the Rohingya Refugee Cultural Center.
Through the assistance of AAFS Fellow Helwas Saleh, winter clothes including coats, jackets, blankets, boots and sweaters were donated to help many of Rohingya’s refugees who know call Chicago home. So far, over 25 families have been helped with the the Winter Clothes Drive. This drive is benefitting those in Chicago and who are still coming into the United Staes.
The Rohingya Muslim are amongst the most persecuted minority group in the world. According to Amnesty International, the Rohingya Muslim people have continued to suffer from human rights violations under the Burmese junta since 1978. Many refugees have fled to Bangladesh, and many are making their way to sanctuary cities in the U.S., such as Chicago.
With the help of Zakat Foundation, space was rented at the Rohingya Cultural Center located on
2740 W, Devon Ave., where hundreds turned out with donation.
We are thankful to the Benedictine University SJP for their help.
