Recently, we were pleased to hear a positive update on a previous domestic violence survivor case. We met our 46-year-old client several months ago when she first came to Arab American Family Services. A refugee, she was also a single mother of two sons, ages 15 and 10.
Faced with being a single mother, she had no contact with her former husband, who had also refused to pay child support. We learned from her that in her native country, she had always held jobs in the areas of cleaning services. She was able to get a job at a local hotel in Chicago, but it was a seasonable job, and she needed something more permanent.
Caseworkers and interns at AAFS were intrigued by her personality and her drive to not give up. She was determined to make a better life for herself and her children.
They helped her create a resume and checked out numerous job sites, helping her apply for the jobs that meet the skills of client. We are pleased to announce that with her determination and drive, our client was recently hired full-time and began working this month.
These stories are what keep us going strong at AAFS. When we see clients who are determined to never give up, it inspires us to never give up and keep pushing through.
