AAFS Co-Founder to Speak at Sexual Violence in Faith Communities Training

Arab American Family Services is proud to announce that co-founder Itedal Shalabi will be speaking at a unique training on sexual violence in faith communities.
The training, Faith in Action: Preventing & Responding to Sexual Violence in Faith Communities, brings together faith and community leaders, educators, social service providers and other community members to discuss sexual violence.
This conference is sponsored by HEART Women & Girls and American Islamic College. It takes place on Sunday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are victims of sexual abuse by the age of 18.
The day long training allows attendees to gain an in-depth understanding of the issue and what we can do to work toward prevention. The goals of this training is to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual violence in faith-communities and to learn from other faith communities to create strategic, sustainable, and victim-centric approaches that address and prevent sexual violence.
It also seeks to increase the number of sexual assault survivor advocates in faith communities, with a particular focus on Muslim communities.
