AAFS Tutoring Program Will Prepare Your Child for the New Year

With the 2015-2016 school year about to kick-off, Arab American Family Services is strengthening it’s tutoring program.
Tutoring will be offered Monday through Thursday from 3:30 – 5 p.m. at the Bridgeview Community Center located on 7900 S. Oketo.
Tutoring is offered in all subject matters for students in 3rd through 8th grade and there is no cost at all.
Recently, we were asked to meet with a student who’s family had recently moved to the United States. The student spoke no English. Everything that was said to him had to be translated for him to understand. He definitely needed extra attention.
Raeda Jaber, AAFS tutoring program coordinator, quickly enrolled him into tutoring sessions.
“As the weeks passed, I began to notice a dramatic change in his English level,” said Jaber.
“The child was nervous at first, but with all the encouragement he has received from the tutors he had gained confidence in himself and began communicating with tutors without a problem,” she said.
The child’s parents were very pleased with the skills he had developed and came in to thank us for preparing their child for the upcoming school year.
Our tutoring program has proven to be a success. And we only want it to grow. We are even looking to get additional tutors to ensure that every child who comes for assistance, will be teamed up with a tutor.
Potential tutors must be ages 16 and older. And all students are welcome for help. Please do not let your child go into the new school year with fear and anxiety on how they will perform. We want to help.
