Staff members of Arab American Family Services have been working hard to raise awareness about domestic violence and the traumatic effect its has on so many lives. This week, staff have been in Springfield, IL, taking part in the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence Retreat.
The ICADV is dedicated to the elimination of violence against women and their children through promoting the eradication of domestic violence across the state of Illinois, as well as ensuring the safety of survivors, their access to services, and their freedom of choice. This holds true to the same feelings that AAFS have long believed in, such as holding abusers accountable for violence and encouraging laws that protect survivors.
Over 90 individuals from over 40 member organizations were present. This retreat opened our eyes to the true meaning of leadership on so many levels from the ground-roots, to nurturing it and passing the torch on to the next group of leaders and advocates.
