On Tuesday, March 18, staff members from Arab American Family Services attended the Spring Parent University event at Andrew High School in Tinley Park, Il. Discussions among parents and staff included information on student safety and responsible decision making for Prom 2014. Students were also able to discuss methods of strengthening their academics and establishing a better relationship with their teachers.
Also discussed were the tough decisions that teenagers face in this day and age and the emotional struggles that they face in high school. Parents learned more about depression and anxiety that their children might be facing, as well as discussed alternatives that could help their children break out of their struggles and succeed. Future goals for college were also talked about as well as deciding which might be the best high school for their children to attend.
This was the first Spring Parent University event that AAFS attended, and they look forward to many more.
